Chapter 13 and 14

1. Read the description of the female sea elephant (cow) and the male sea elephant (bull). Then compare/contrast the two in a Venn Diagram. Show how they are alike and how they are different (Post if you are doing this one so the group members know!)

2. Why was Karana unable to kill the young sea elephant?


3. How did she hurt her leg?

4. What happened when Karana went to the ravine for water?

5. Why did she spend six (6) days in the cave? Why did she decide to make the cave another house?

6. What did Karana find when she returned to the place where the sea elephants lived?

7. Pick two of these words.  Find the word and give the page number and the definition:

    #3 Karena had hurt her leg by tripping over a stone when a young bull came behind her and she fell to her knees in pain but when she got back at her house she looked at her leg because it hurt and it was swollen

    #5 she spent 6 days in the cave because the wild dogs cornered here and she wouldn't be safe. She decided to to make the cave another house because if she got hurt again or sick she could stay there.

    She didn't carried any weapends and the teeth were as big as her hand and they were big. She made weapends at the end to go to the cave of the wild dogs.

    #7 waddle is on page 81 and so is bellow (it is technically waddling and bellowing but same thing) the definition of waddle is to walk with short steps.
    the definition for bellow is a deep loud roar.

    Karana hurt herself while she was running away from a bull (sea elephant) because she was afraid it was chasing her and then she tripped over a rock and it got swollen so she had to stay inside her house and she started to run out of essentials so she had to go out and find some.

    #6 When she went back she found the body of the old bull. That meant that the young sea elephant won. She found his teeth and used them for the spear.
